Hexagon box 2

(Continuation from Yesterday) Another important feature in the construction of this box is the angles. As you well know, the angles of a square box are 90 degrees (right angle). However, a hexagon box must be made to fit 120 degrees (60 degrees). Japanese woodworking machines (many carpentry tools) are often suitable for making 90 degree wooden parts. Therefore, it is not very practical to cut parts at 120 degrees or 60 degrees. Therefore, I have some tools (handmade rulers etc.) to make parts. I combine these tools with machines to make the hexagon boxes.
Hexagon box is not all bad feature😅, but they also have some advantages. This is more technical topic, but the grooves of Aruki in this box are carved diagonally to the grain of the wood (photo). This makes the Aruki move more smoothly (in my opinion). It feels smoother than if it was parallel or perpendicular to the grain. The sense of movement and sound of the wood moving are pleasant. I think this is one of the important features of Himitsu-bako. I think Himitsu-bako should be a light, quaint, and gentle box compared to other puzzle boxes. This is because it is a traditional craft that has been handed down in rural towns in Japan. The movement of hexagon box is very pleasant.
I think there are other advantages too, such as a beautiful shape.
and I would like to write about other polygonal boxes at some point.
