Aruki of 18-step box
Today, I started with the production of the aruki panels (moving panels) for the 4-sun 18-move secret box. As I mentioned the other day, the assembly of the parts is not yet complete, but it is possible to work on the aruki panels first.
The photo shows the production process of the aruki panels. Compared to usual, the number is indeed larger. The aruki for the 18-move secret box has a three-step staircase design, so the thickness is only 6.5 mm, which isn’t very thick. As a result, the "resistance" during processing—such as the impact when the blade cuts or shaves the wood—is relatively minimal.
Therefore, it wasn’t particularly hard work, but the large quantity required a significant amount of time. For example, with a 27-step puzzle box, the aruki thickness is 8.5 mm, which requires a bit more effort to shave.
This morning, I worked on producing these panels, and in the afternoon, I moved on to attaching components and attaching the aruki panels.
After that, I prepared the solid wood top and bottom panels, which are limited-edition pieces for this production. For now, the design uses only three colors, but I may add further processing later. For instance, if I decide to include lines in directions other than vertical (such as diagonal or horizontal), I will first trim the three-colored boards to the correct dimensions and adjust their size before making those. I’d like to create something unique this time as well, but it’s possible that I’ll stick with just these three colors😅
