3-sun 12-step box
Today, on the last day of 2024, I started working on a new batch of 3-sun 12-step Japanese puzzle boxes. This time, I am making them in a natural wood style rather than the traditional Yosegi type. The arrangement of wood for the top panel features a new style. The main material is Nyatoh wood, complemented by three other types of wood arranged together. This design, which combines one large-width piece of wood with three smaller-width pieces, is a type I used to create often in the past. I decided to revisit this design for this batch.
Today, I worked on creating the frame parts for these boxes. Although they are not yet assembled, I plan to produce about 30 units in this batch. As shown in the photo, I made solid wooden blocks, which I have already cut thinly and set out to dry. I considered making an 18-step version this time, but I decided to go with the standard 12-step version instead, partly because I want to complete the products more quickly (though that's not the only reason). The 18-step mechanism requires more work and significantly extends the production time.
Today, I also applied an undercoat to the 5-sun 27-step puzzle boxes I had been working on. This step provides some protection against external environmental effects, which is a relief. Since I won’t be able to work tomorrow, I plan to store these puzzle boxes in plastic cases for safekeeping.
That concludes the blog for 2024. Thank you for reading this blog, which I started this year. I plan to continue updating it from Monday to Friday starting tomorrow, and I would be delighted if you continue to follow along. Thank you once again, and wishing you a Happy New Year!😄
