2 sun cube drawer box
Today was another cold day. The air was very dry, making the wood glue dry much faster during work. In such conditions, quick and skillful hands are essential!😆
As planned, I completed the base coating for 3-sun cube puzzle boxes and 2-sun cube puzzle boxes. The photo shows the 3-sun cubes just before they were base-coated. Last month (November), I made 3-sun 14-step cube puzzle boxes, and just like then, the work progressed smoothly this time as well.
I’m not sure when the next batch will be, but this is one of the designs I’ll continue to produce in the future.
Behind the scenes of the 3-sun cubes, the 2-sun cube puzzle boxes with drawers were quietly (??) being worked on simultaneously, and their progress has been smooth as well. I’ve made so many of these over the years that I’ve lost count, but for the time being, I’ll continue creating designs with the same combination of traditional Yosegi and walnut wood as this batch.
The small drawers for these boxes are already finished. For the drawer fronts, I use whatever wood is available in stock at the time. This time, the design features nyatoh wood. Nyatoh is frequently used for Yosegi, box sides, and other parts, and leftover scraps often remain, making it ideal for projects like this (The photo shows walnut wood type). The size of these small drawers is approximately 4 cm x 3 cm, so drawer fronts can be made using stick-like scraps that are about 4 mm thick and 1.5 cm wide. For the drawer handles, I cut 4-mm-diameter beech wood dowels that I already have on hand.
In addition to this, today I worked on assembling the frame parts for the 5-sun 27-step puzzle boxes, which I briefly mentioned yesterday. Although it was slightly behind schedule, I also prepared the Yosegi-sheets for the 5-sun boxes.
Wishing everyone a wonderful Christmas!🎄
