Bocchi

The Japanese puzzle box with the slide key have this small parts. it is hidden under the slide keys. This is called "bocchi" or "ibo" in production terms of Himitsu-bako. I'm making this now. Its mounting requires a long period of making experience of Himitsu-bako. This is because the movement of the slide key is determined by how this is attached. And I have to use wax to make it glide.
In the past, it seems that a wood called ``shiba'' was used as the material for this part. It has this elasticity and seems preferable for making this part (I have never used it). However, it is now impossible for us to obtain that wood. This wood is not widely distributed. so I usually use the best parts of Agathis wood, or Hoo wood. because the quality of agathis wood varies, I used the preferred resilient part to make this part.
and The mounting methods vary depending on the craftsman, and there is a lot of creativity involved.
